Standard Chalets at Tau

The standard chalets with private balcony overlooking the waterhole can accommodate 2 adults sharing or a single adult.

Deluxe Chalets at Tau

The Deluxe chalets are double the size of a standard chalet and can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children under the age of 12 years old sharing in the same room.
(This is one large room so no privacy).

Family Unit at Tau

The Family Unit is made up of 2 standard chalets joined by a semi-interleading lounge area, this unit is suitable for 2 adults and 2 children, alternatively 4 adults, the one bedroom is equipped with a double bed and the other with twin beds.
Tau Game Lodge has 1 family Unit only.

Family Suite at Tau

The Family Suite consists of 2 adjacent Deluxe chalets joined by a semi-interleading lounge area. It is thus suitable for larger families of 2 adults and max 4 children below the age of 12 years, 1 bedroom is equipped with a double bed and the other with twin beds, sleeper couches can be put into the rooms to accommodate the additional 2 children. 1 Family suite only

 

Tau's Location & Transfers

How to get there...

Option 1 - Self Drive:

• 360 km from Johannesburg, an easy 4 hour drive on National roads (see map) Rather do not use a GPS.
• From Pretoria take the N4 direction Rustenburg
• From Johannesburg travel via Fourways to Hartebeestpoortdam, following the signs to Rustenburg and Brits to begin with and once on the N4 continue this toll road to Rustenburg, Swartruggens, Groot Marico and Zeerust. Toll fees ± R 140.00.
• You may wish to re-fuel in Zeerust as there is no fuel available in the Reserve.
• In Zeerust, A green provincial road sign indicates a right turn coming up to Gaborone, continue to drive towards the next road sign  just thereafter and then turn right onto the R 49 to Gaborone.
• Follow the R49 towards Madikwe Game Reserve for approximately 97km.
• First gate you will pass is Abjaterskop, drive past this gate for 7kms the next gate is Wonderboom, pass this and travel to the Kopfontein border post going towards Gaborone
• Turn right onto the Derdepoort Gate road, just before the border post and follow the road for approximately 10 km to the Tau lodge gate (all roads up to this point are tarred.)

Option 2 - Transfer by Coach or Minibus:

• Transfers and charters to Tau Game Lodge is available on request.

Option 3 - By Air transfer:

• Daily scheduled flights depart from Oliver Thambo Airport (Johannesburg International Airport)

Daily scheduled flights to Madikwe 2025

Flights depart from The Federal Air private departure lounge facility located in an exclusive part of O.R. Tambo International Airport, where complimentary soft drinks,  teas, coffees, snacks, shower facilities & Wi-fi (inside departure lounge) is available.

Please note: Guests should please make their way to the Federal Airlines Kiosk situated in the Bus Terminal at OR Tambo International Airport located next to the Car rental terminal and the Intercontinental Hotel. Federal Air will provide complimentary transport to the Federal Air Departure lounge from there. Alternatively, directions to the Departure Lounge are available at www.fedair.com.

Very Important!

To facilitate smooth connections, kindly note the following:

• Connecting flights on the way to Madikwe must arrive at least minimum 2 hours before the Madikwe Flight departure time
• Connecting flights on return should be booked minimum 2 hours after expected return from Madikwe onwards for Local flights and minimum 3 hours after return from Madikwe onwards for international flights.
